Living In Henderson

When most hear of Las Vegas, they usually think of the strip. Fewer consider the many other communities throughout the valley. Like the hidden gem of a city to our south called Henderson.

In fact, located 16 miles southeast of Las Vegas, Henderson is the second largest city with an estimated population of 308,000 in Nevada and is nestled against the Black Mountain Range in the southeast part of our valley and is in close proximity to Lake Mead National Recreation Park and Boulder City.

For the last few years, Forbes Magazine has ranked Henderson among America’s top 10 safest cities to live. This provides additional comfort to the residents of Henderson, who not only get to enjoy easy access to all that Las Vegas and its natural surroundings have to offer, but also a section of their own amenities that accentuate Henderson as one of the top places to live in southern Nevada.

Henderson has plenty for everyone. You can golf on one of its eight championship golf courses, eat at world-renowned restaurants and enjoy acres of parks with your family. The outside enthusiast will find plenty of biking, hiking and water sports. Henderson has award-winning schools, state-of-the-art hospitals, and world-class shopping, making it the perfect place to call home.

Many of those who choose Henderson pick from a number of beautiful master-planned residential communities that, together, fit all lifestyles. Some of the most popular of these communities include Anthem, Inspirada, Lake Las Vegas, MacDonald Ranch, Seven Hills, Madeira, and several Sin City communities for those interested in an active adult lifestyle.

Lake Las Vegas is one of the more unique Henderson communities, as it is a destination spot of its own, offering three world-class hotels, surrounded by championship golf courses, beaches, lakes, pools, shops, restaurants and luxurious homes and condos that line the foothills of the cascading mountains behind them.

The Ethel M Chocolate Factory is a popular Henderson attraction, as people come from all over the world to taste the famous candies and stroll through the world’s largest botanical cactus garden. Both residents and tourists might also be found observing the MGM lions at the famous lion habitat or spending a sunny day playing at Cowabunga Bay’s water park.

The District at Green Valley Ranch and the Galleria Mall house a large portion of the retail offerings that’ll satisfy any shopper’s delight. While Henderson’s Galaxy Theater offers a unique experience where moviegoers can enjoy drinks and eat dinner, all while watching the latest feature in a comfortable recliner.

For many Henderson residents, Lake Mead tops the list of attractions. Formed by the Hoover Dam, Lake Mead is the largest reservoir in the United States. This national conservation area is 112 miles long and offers more than 750 miles of shoreline, ranging from the spectacular Hoover Dam to the Valley of Fire.

If you enjoy freshwater activities, you’ll love the variety of boating, water sports, and fishing that Lake Mead has to offer. The secluded coves for swimming and hillside peaks make Lake Mead a water lover’s paradise.

It is no wonder that Bloomberg Businessweek named Henderson one of the best cities to live in America.
